EducationI am currently a Junior at the University of Miami pursuing a B.S. in Neuroscience, B.A. in Philosophy, and minors in Chemistry and Political Science. I am a recipient of the Stamps Leadership Scholarship, which provides me with full cost of attendance and is the highest merit-based scholarship given to UM students.
In regards to high school, I am a graduate of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Fort Myers High School, Class of 2013. My final GPA was 3.92 unweighted and 5.98 weighted (0.08 added on for each AP/IB/Dual Enrollment class). I graduated with the #1 GPA out of 149 IB seniors and consistently held this top ranking since Freshman year.
ExperienceCost: $20 per hour.
My SAT score is 2200 (770 M, 650 CR, 780 W, perfect 12 on the essay). My ACT score is 35 (36 M, 34 R, 34 W, 35 S, 9 on the essay). I also took the SAT II Math Subject Test and Chemistry Subject Test and scored a 770 and 650, respectively. I have taken 3 years of high school chemistry (2 years of IB). I have taken 3 AP tests and received 5s on all of them (Human Geo, English Lang and Comp, Calculus AB). At Edison State College, I took Trigonometry, Composition I, Ethics, Intro to College Chem, and General Physics I and received As in each class.
I have tutored numerous people, usually through the Student Government Association at my school, which I am an officer of. I have also tutored various math students in my school through my membership in the Math Team.
As for my music experience, I have been playing piano for 13 years (formal training for 5 years) and playing clarinet for 11 years (formal training for 4 years). In addition, I took Higher Level Music during my junior and senior year of high school; HL Music is an IB course that enforces not only musical performance ability, but also music theory and analysis.
I thoroughly enjoy working with kids and have spent 2 summers as a volunteer in the Hematology/Oncology Unit of the Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. I believe being a tutor is my way of paying tribute to the community that has raised me to become the successful young adult that I am today. My overall goal is simply to instill the same love of learning in all my students that my parents and teachers have so graciously instilled in me.
HobbiesI have a wide array of interests, ranging from football to baking to reading. I have played tennis for 10 years and was Varsity tennis captain at Fort Myers High. I enjoy spending time outdoors and volunteering with children and animals. I absolutely love learning, particularly anything to do with science, philosophy, psychology, politics, or astronomy. My favorite quote is by 19th century German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche: “The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”
